Dublin: Rob Wainwright is taking on a big challenge for Doddie Aid. He’ll ride 800 miles from Dublin to Edinburgh. He’s joined by rugby stars and other athletes.

This is Wainwright’s sixth endurance challenge for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. The foundation was started by Doddie Weir after his MND diagnosis in 2016.

This year’s ride is part of Doddie Aid, which Wainwright launched in 2021. It has raised over £5 million for MND research.

The Grand Tour starts at Dublin’s Guinness Storehouse. The goal is to reach Murrayfield Stadium before Scotland plays Ireland in the Six Nations.

The first leg is 100 miles from Dublin to Belfast. Then, the route goes to Cairnryan, where the Scottish leg begins.

More riders will join as they travel through Wigtownshire, Dumfries, and Glasgow, finishing in Edinburgh.

Wainwright has raised over £2.5 million for the foundation through past challenges. Last year, he led cyclists from Scotland to Rome.

Wainwright said Doddie’s spirit continues to inspire everyone. He believes in a world free of MND and wants to raise more funds for research.

Paul Thompson from the foundation praised Wainwright’s dedication. He urged everyone to support the riders and the cause.

Other athletes joining the ride include Dennis McBride, Heather Stanning, and Rory Lawson.
