Bristol: Former Tory MP Jack Lopresti has joined the Ukrainian International Legion. This group is made up of foreign volunteers fighting against Russia.

Lopresti, who used to be the deputy chair of the Conservative Party, is now in Kyiv. He visited Ukraine as an MP and pushed for more aid for the country.

At 55, he’s not in direct combat yet. However, he’s ready to fight if needed. He stated, “I am a soldier. I will do my best.”

He wants to support the brave Ukrainian people in their fight for freedom. He believes that if Putin wins, it would be disastrous for the world.

Currently, he’s using his skills from being an MP to help with weapons procurement and international relations. A senior leader in Ukraine reached out to him for his expertise.

After visiting Ukraine in February 2023, he felt inspired to help. He said he wanted to do more for Ukraine and its people.

He mentioned that if he lost his seat in Parliament, he would come to Ukraine to help. He saw the need for support and decided to join the military.

In the 2024 General Election, Labour MP Claire Hazelgrove won his seat. She received 22,905 votes, while Lopresti got 12,905 votes after serving since 2010.
