Wimbledon: So, here’s the scoop. South Western Railway is telling folks to get ready for some disruptions. They’re doing engineering work that’ll close a bunch of railway lines over the next two weekends.
This maintenance is happening on January 18, 19, 25, and 26. It’s going to affect services all over the place, especially between London Waterloo and places like Chessington South and Dorking.
And guess what? If you were planning to hop on a train, you might need to rethink that. They won’t be running those services, so it’s bus time instead. There will be rail replacement buses running from Clapham Junction to Chessington South and other spots.
Also, if you’re heading to Alton or Basingstoke, your journey will start and end at Woking. Longer trips, like to Exeter St Davids, will take about 30 minutes longer than usual because of the detours.
The engineers are busy renewing about 800 meters of track between Wimbledon and Earlsfield. They’re also replacing some points and installing conductor rail to keep the trains powered up.
This work is super important. It’ll help make the track more reliable and cut down on issues caused by wear and tear. Peter Williams from SWR is asking everyone to plan ahead and be patient during this time.
And just a heads up, there will be more closures in the Wimbledon area on February 2 and 9. For all the details, check out southwesternrailway.com/planned-improvements. You can also plan your journey there. Safe travels!
