Nantymoel: So, Bridgend County Borough Council is jumping into action to fix a road that got wrecked by a landslide during Storm Bert. They kicked off the emergency work on January 13.

This isn’t just any road; it’s the A4061, Bwlch-y-Clawdd Road. The landslide happened back in November 2024, and it really messed things up. Water washed away a bunch of material, making the road super unsafe.

The council had to break some usual rules to get this done quickly. They realized it was all about keeping folks safe, so they made it happen at a meeting in January.

People at the meeting stressed how important this road is. It connects Neath Port Talbot and Rhondda Cynon Taf, and the council leader even called it one of the prettiest roads around.

After the storm hit, the council got a call from emergency services. They quickly closed the road to keep everyone safe. Once the storm calmed down, engineers checked out the damage and figured out what needed fixing.

They cleared the debris by November 26, but the road was still under traffic control to prevent any more issues. Now, they’re bringing in contractors who were already working nearby to speed things up.

The council is looking to cover the repair costs, which are around £131,000, with help from the Welsh Government. They’re tapping into an emergency fund set up for local authorities after the storms.

A spokesperson mentioned that the work is set to last about four weeks, from 9 am to 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday. During this time, drivers can still get between Neath Port Talbot and Rhondda Cynon Taf, but not towards Bridgend County Borough. They’ll have to follow some detours.

Cllr Paul Davies emphasized how crucial these repairs are for public safety now and in the future. They’re hoping this investment will help the area withstand any future storms. If you want to stay updated on Bridgend news, don’t forget to sign up for their newsletter!
