Cardiff: So, it turns out that 11 more folks have been charged in connection with the Ely riots. The Crown Prosecution Service gave the green light for South Wales Police to charge ten adults and one youth with riot-related offenses.

These individuals are set to appear in court on January 22. This comes after 31 others were already charged for their roles in the chaos that erupted back on May 22, 2023.

The trouble started after two teenagers tragically lost their lives in a crash while riding an e-bike. Kyrees Sullivan, 16, and 15-year-old Harvey Evans were killed, and their deaths led to a night of violence and vandalism in Ely. There’s even footage of a police van trailing the boys just before the accident.

Jenny Hopkins, the Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS Cymru-Wales, emphasized the seriousness of the situation. She reminded everyone that these new charges mean active criminal proceedings are underway, and it’s crucial to respect the right to a fair trial. She urged people not to share any information online that could interfere with the case.
