London: So, it seems Elon Musk is a bit hesitant to chat with UK MPs about his platform, X, and its impact on British society. Chi Onwurah, a senior MP, mentioned that he’s quick to share his thoughts online but not so keen to discuss them in person.
Back in December, Onwurah invited Musk to give evidence to her tech committee, which is looking into social media issues like misinformation. She pointed out that while he has no problem criticizing the British government on X, he’s avoiding a face-to-face conversation.
Interestingly, Musk hasn’t officially responded to the invite. When he first heard about it, he took to X to express his frustration, suggesting that MPs should come to the U.S. to explain their actions. Onwurah even joked that if he’s willing to cover the travel costs, they’d be happy to visit him.
She also expressed her surprise at Musk’s aggressive comments about British politicians, especially regarding sensitive topics like grooming gangs. Onwurah hopes Musk will eventually come to the committee to clarify his stance on freedom of speech and misinformation.
It’s a bit of a head-scratcher, isn’t it? Musk’s online presence is huge, yet he seems to shy away from direct discussions. It’ll be interesting to see if he changes his mind and engages with the committee.
