London: The Elizabeth line is officially the busiest railway service in the UK. A recent report shows it’s not just about trains; it’s also creating jobs and new homes.
Since it opened two years ago, over 500 million journeys have been made on the Elizabeth line. That’s a lot of people commuting!
Most folks surveyed said the line has really improved their area. For example, around Abbey Wood, there’s been an 11% boost in job access. Pretty impressive, right?
Housing is also on the rise near the stations. The report highlights that Abbey Wood is becoming a major regeneration hotspot, with a 6% increase in new homes and more plans for development in the next five years.
Councillor Averil Lekau from Greenwich council shared how transformative the line has been. It’s opened up 1.2 million jobs within a 45-minute commute for locals and attracted new businesses.
Events like the Blue Earth Summit have drawn over 7,000 visitors to Woolwich Works, showing the area’s growing appeal.
With all this interest from investors, there’s potential for around 28,000 new jobs by 2051 in Greenwich and the Thames Gateway area. Exciting times ahead!
