Teesside: An elderly widow is heartbroken after discovering rats in her kitchen. Edna O’Hara, 80, first noticed them on her Ring doorbell footage back in December.
She called Thirteen Housing for help, but no one showed up. It wasn’t until January 8 that they finally visited her home. Sadly, her dog Lilly passed away just days before that visit.
Edna suspects Lilly might have caught something from the rats. “They carry all sorts of diseases,” she said, worried about what might have happened to her little companion.
Having lived in her home since 1958, Edna has dealt with mice before but never rats. Now, they seem to appear almost every night, and she’s been working hard to keep her kitchen clean.
She’s set up traps and spent hours scrubbing surfaces, but the rodents keep coming back. Just recently, she found them gnawing through her food packets.
Edna has even recorded footage of the rats jumping on her worktops. She’s sent this to Thirteen Group, but feels let down by their lack of response.
Her little dog Lilly fell ill on Christmas Day and sadly passed away shortly after. Edna found her at the back door, and it broke her heart, especially since it was so close to the anniversary of her husband’s death.
Michelle Younger from Thirteen has apologized for the delay and said they’re working to resolve the issue. They’re committed to making sure Edna feels safe in her home again.
