Carnforth: A poor elderly chap got caught up in a scam and lost a hefty sum of money. It’s just awful how these scammers operate.

He received a call from someone pretending to be a police officer from Scotland Yard. Can you believe that? They even had a fake name and badge number!

This scammer told him he needed to give his bank details and home address for an investigation. It’s just so sneaky.

Then, they convinced him to authorize a bank transaction and even collected his bank cards from his home. How low can you go?

They threatened him, saying if he told anyone, he’d be arrested. It’s just cruel to prey on someone like that.

After that, money started disappearing from his account. Detective Constable Matthew Heath from Lancashire Police is on the case, trying to catch these fraudsters.

He mentioned that these scammers often target vulnerable folks, so it’s super important to stay alert and know the signs.

The police are urging everyone to be cautious and to inform their loved ones about these scams. Remember, banks and police will never ask for your full passwords or request money over the phone.

It’s crucial not to hand over cash or cards to anyone who shows up at your door claiming to be from the police or a bank.

If someone comes knocking, it’s best to call the police at 999. And if you get unexpected deliveries, don’t hand them over—just call the cops.

Also, don’t agree to transfer money or withdraw cash at someone else’s request. Always verify who you’re talking to before sharing any personal info.

If you think you’ve been scammed, contact your bank right away using their official number. Detective Heath is asking everyone to help spread the word about these scams.

He wants us to look out for our loved ones, especially those who might be more vulnerable. If you have any info, even if it seems small, reach out to the police.

You can call them at 101 or contact Action Fraud at 0300 1232040. Let’s help keep our community safe!
