Eir apologises to Cork city cafe owner after ‘mistaken’ warning over music download

Cork: So, here’s the scoop. Eir, the broadband provider, just apologized to a cafe owner in Cork city. Paul Walsh, who runs the 3 Little Piggies cafe, got a surprise letter from them. It claimed someone was using his WiFi to download Halsey’s album, “If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power.”

Paul was pretty taken aback when he saw that letter. Eir quickly cleared things up, saying the warning was meant for residential customers, not businesses like his. They messed up and sent it to him by mistake.

An Eir spokesperson explained that they have a system to tackle music copyright issues. Usually, they send out three warnings before taking any action. But this time, they goofed and sent a warning to a business customer instead. They reached out to Paul to say sorry and promised to fix the issue so it doesn’t happen again.

The letter even pinpointed the exact time of the alleged download—4:45 PM on December 12, 2024. Paul mentioned that people are always using the WiFi at his cafe. Regulars, students, and business folks are constantly popping in and out. It’s just part of the cafe vibe these days.
