Tokyo: A shocking incident unfolded at Hosei University when a female student went on a hammer-wielding spree, injuring eight people. The police quickly arrested a 22-year-old South Korean sociology student at the scene.
It all happened during class, and the attacker reportedly swung the hammer around without aiming at anyone in particular. Witnesses described the chaos, with students in the back row getting hit as they tried to escape the madness.
Emergency services were called around 3:45 PM, and the classroom was filled with about 150 students. One student shared how terrifying it was, saying their hands were shaking from fear.
Authorities believe the attack stemmed from the suspect’s frustration over being bullied. She allegedly found the hammer on campus and acted out in anger after feeling ignored by her classmates.
While it’s still unclear if the attack was planned, the police are continuing their investigation. Thankfully, the injured students are recovering, and Hosei University is working with law enforcement to enhance campus safety.
Violent incidents like this are rare in Japan, but there have been some alarming cases recently. Just last month, a junior high school student was killed in a separate attack, highlighting a troubling trend.
