Edinburgh: So, it turns out that two lynx were found in the Cairngorms, and they seem to have been left there on purpose. Crazy, right? Edinburgh Zoo is now taking care of them.
These big cats were spotted early on Friday near Kingussie, and the police had to warn folks to keep their distance. Just a couple of days before, two other lynx were also brought to the zoo after being let loose illegally.
The team from the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland set up some humane traps to catch them. They worked closely with the police and park rangers to keep an eye on the area. It’s been quite the effort!
They finally caught the lynx around 6:30 PM near the Dell of Killiehuntly. The plan is to check them out at the Highland Wildlife Park first, then move them to quarantine at the zoo.
A spokesperson from the zoo mentioned that it’s a relief to have these lynx safe. They were spotted on camera traps just a day before they were caught, so it’s been a bit of a whirlwind.
Dr. Helen Senn, who’s in charge of conservation at RZSS, said the community will be glad to hear the lynx are okay. They seem to be in good health, which is a huge relief after all the hard work put in by everyone involved.
Now, they’ll stay at the Highland Wildlife Park for a check-up before heading to Edinburgh Zoo for a 30-day quarantine. They’re still keeping an eye out just in case there are more lynx out there.
