Cardiff: You won’t believe what happened at Fitzalan High School! Ed Sheeran just popped in during their morning assembly, and the kids were totally blown away. Imagine nearly 2,000 students getting a surprise performance from a global superstar!
So, there they were, just having a regular assembly when the headteacher announced a special guest. No one expected it to be Ed! He was there to kick off his new foundation, which is all about improving music education for young people in the UK.
When Ed walked in, the headteacher, Adam Lear, said the atmosphere was electric. Everyone was just buzzing! Before the assembly, Ed even surprised some music students during their rehearsal. Their reactions were priceless!
During the assembly, Ed performed a couple of his hits, including ‘Shape of You’. The students sang along, and it was such a fun vibe. He even took some time to answer questions from the kids, which made it even more special.
He was joined by Amy Wadge, a talented Welsh songwriter who co-wrote ‘Thinking Out Loud’ with him. The headteacher mentioned how overwhelmed the students felt, especially since they had just performed on that very stage the week before.
After the school visit, Ed also stopped by the East Moors Youth Centre in Splott. He jammed with some young people involved in a music education project there. The energy was off the charts, and everyone was so grateful for his support.
Ed shared on Instagram how music education has been a huge part of his life. He wants to make sure kids today have the same opportunities he did. He believes music is vital for mental health and personal growth.
He’s passionate about changing how music is taught in schools and wants every child to have the chance to express themselves through music. His foundation aims to work with communities and the government to make this happen.
It’s all about giving kids the tools they need to succeed in the music industry. Ed’s really hoping to inspire the next generation of musicians and show them how important they are.
