North Stonington: Electric Boat is moving forward with plans to build a massive 480,000-square-foot warehouse. They recently bought a 55-acre site from the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.

A spokesperson for Electric Boat didn’t share many details about the project. However, they did get local land-use approvals late last year to construct the warehouse at 45 Frontage Road. The Inland Wetlands Commission gave the green light in October, and the Planning and Zoning Commission followed in December.

They wrapped up the property purchase earlier this month, paying $5.5 million. Interestingly, the tribe had bought it for $2.85 million back in 1995. The site is in an Economic Development District Zone, which is great for attracting new businesses.

Susan Cullen, the town’s planning and zoning official, expressed excitement about Electric Boat joining the community. She mentioned that this location is perfect for creating more jobs in the town and surrounding areas.

The site has easy access to Interstate 95, sitting right between Electric Boat’s facilities in Groton and Quonset Point, Rhode Island. A traffic study for the project indicates there will be 75 parking spaces and two loading areas for trucks, with two driveways on Frontage Road for access.

They expect the warehouse to be up and running by 2026. Electric Boat has been ramping up its operations lately to meet the growing demands of Navy contracts, especially for submarines.
