Eastwood: So, there’s some good news coming out of Eastwood. Progress Warehouses Limited is looking to rebuild a warehouse on Progress Road. This comes after a fire wiped out a packaging and car parts business back in 2023.
The site has been empty since that blaze, which firefighters battled for over 36 hours. It even led to an arson investigation, which is pretty intense.
Local councillor Paul Collins, who’s with the Lib Dems, is all for the new plans. He thinks it’ll create some solid job opportunities for folks in the area.
He mentioned how quickly the owners cleared the wreckage. The old building was completely gone, and now they’re proposing something new.
Collins reassured everyone that it won’t turn into another car breaker yard. Instead, it’ll be a dedicated warehouse, which he’s really happy about since he wants to see more jobs.
The new warehouse is meant for an industrial area, so it fits right in. Plus, it’s going to look more modern, which is a nice touch.
The developers are saying this new plan will help bring back the jobs that were lost and give a boost to the local economy.
They’ve also calmed any worries about the type of businesses that will be there. It’s going to be something fresh and new, not like what was there before.
The fire was a big deal, requiring ten firefighting crews and even a drone team to help out. Collins recalled how lucky they were that day since the wind was blowing away from homes. It was a scary situation, and it took a whole weekend to put it out.
