North Berwick: Holiday flat owners might pay up to £750 a year for parking. This is due to new parking permit plans from East Lothian Council.
The council is rolling out a £30 weekly permit for holiday properties. This applies to the new controlled parking zones in North Berwick.
Only 25 permits will be available each year. The council expects to earn significant income from this, as many of the town’s 445 short-term lets are in the zone.
Additionally, the council is considering a Visitors Levy. This would charge guests a nightly fee, similar to a recent plan in Edinburgh.
The new parking scheme includes controlled residential zones and charges for town center parking. Residents can buy a permit for £40 a year.
However, short-term let operators will pay much more and can only use permits for half the year. A £4 daily permit will also be available for visitors and local tradespeople.
These plans were approved by councillors in December
