Philadelphia: So, it looks like Alec Halaby, the Eagles’ assistant GM, is in the running for the Jets’ GM job. This isn’t his first rodeo; he interviewed for a GM position last year too.
He’s set to chat with the Jets on Wednesday, and it’s pretty exciting stuff. Last year, he caught the eye of the Panthers and Commanders, but nothing came of it. Still, he said he learned a lot from those interviews.
Honestly, it feels like it’s just a matter of time before he gets his shot to run a team. Halaby got promoted to assistant GM in 2022 after spending six years as the Eagles’ VP of football operations. He’s been climbing the ladder for a while now.
Howie Roseman, the Eagles’ longtime GM, has built a solid front office, and many of his assistants have moved on to bigger roles. Joe Douglas, the Jets’ former GM, is one of them. He was spotted at an Eagles game recently, which is kind of interesting.
Jeffrey Lurie, the Eagles’ owner, has praised Roseman for developing his staff. He mentioned how well-trained these assistant GMs are, which is a big deal in the NFL. They get a chance to learn everything, from scouting to salary cap management.
Halaby is a Harvard grad who started as an intern with the Eagles back in 2007. He’s held various roles, working his way up. He’s known for his analytics work but does a lot more, collaborating with scouts and managing the salary cap.
