Preston: Cold Weather Payments are being rolled out to 24 areas in Lancashire. The Department of Work and Pensions confirmed that the chilly weather at the start of 2025 triggered these payments.
On January 12, payments started for many households, with more areas added the next day. If you live in one of these areas and meet the criteria, you could get £25 when temperatures dip below zero for a week.
To qualify, you need to be receiving certain benefits like Pension Credit or Universal Credit. It’s all about helping those who need it most during these cold snaps.
Since January 2, over 600 postcodes across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland have been activated for these payments. Unfortunately, folks in Scotland aren’t eligible for this support.
The aim is to assist vulnerable people in keeping their homes warm during extreme cold. The payments go directly into bank accounts, usually within 14 days after the cold spell.
