Manchester: A heartbreaking story unfolded when a father of three, Benjamin Connor, was left alone at Cornbrook station by the police. His mother shared that he had no money, phone, or transport during Christmas, which is just tragic.
Benjamin, who was 30 and a trained chef, had been out drinking with some guys he met at a pub. Things took a turn when he was asked to leave a friend’s flat after his behavior changed. It sounds like he was having a good time at first, but then he got aggressive.
Body camera footage showed the chaos, with one of the men calling him a “psychopath.” It was clear that Benjamin needed help, especially since he had a history of mental health issues. His mom mentioned he had ADHD and had struggled with substance use, but he had been getting support before this incident.
After being taken away by the police, he was dropped off at the station around 1 AM. Sadly, just a few hours later, he was hit by a car on the motorway. The distance from the station to where he was struck is about two miles, and no one knows how he got there.
His mother, Sharon, was devastated. She wrote to the coroner, expressing her pain and confusion about why the police let him go when he clearly needed help. She said, “Dumped at Cornbrook station with no money, phone or transport at Christmas. Our family is broken.” It’s just so heartbreaking.
Benjamin had previously attempted suicide, and despite being taken to the hospital, he tragically passed away shortly after. The inquest is looking into the police’s actions that night, and it seems there are many questions left unanswered.
His friend, who was with him that night, described how Benjamin was a nice guy but had a dark side when drinking. It’s a tough situation, and it’s clear that Benjamin was struggling with his demons.
As the inquest continues, it’s a reminder of the importance of mental health support and how crucial it is for those in need to get the help they deserve.
