Stoke-on-Trent: A man named Steven Bagshaw has been sentenced for a terrible crime. He sexually assaulted a woman who was passed out from drinking.

Bagshaw, 60, took advantage of her when she was barely conscious. The court heard he touched her inappropriately and performed a sex act on her.

He got 18 months in jail and will be on the sex offenders’ register for ten years. Plus, he can’t contact the victim for life.

The incident happened on July 31, 2020. The victim shared how the attack worsened her anxiety and made her feel unsafe. She now struggles with PTSD and has nightmares.

Bagshaw denied the charges but was found guilty after a trial. His lawyer said he hasn’t accepted the jury’s decision and lacks empathy for the victim.

Bagshaw claims he has stopped drinking and using drugs since the incident. He believes those issues contributed to his actions that night.

The judge noted the victim was in a vulnerable state and that Bagshaw took advantage of her. He emphasized the seriousness of the crime and the need for immediate custody.
