Walpole: It’s been a tough time in Australia with three drownings reported recently. Two tourists lost their lives at Conspicuous Beach, which is known for its tricky waters.
On Saturday afternoon, emergency services rushed to help after reports of swimmers in trouble. Sadly, a 40-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man were pulled from the water but couldn’t be revived.
A 42-year-old man was resuscitated and taken to the hospital. All three were from the Perth area and were enjoying their time at the beach.
Conspicuous Beach is just a short drive from Walpole and is popular for surfing and whale watching. But it’s also notorious for dangerous conditions, with strong currents and unpredictable waves.
Just a day later, another drowning occurred at Carlton Beach in Tasmania, where a man died after struggling in the water with a group that included children.
With summer just starting, the drowning toll has already reached 29 lives lost. This year, the numbers are concerning, showing a 20% increase compared to the five-year average.
Experts warn that the festive season is particularly risky, especially between Christmas and New Year’s. They emphasize that men are disproportionately affected, urging everyone to be cautious around water.
It’s a stark reminder to enjoy the beach safely and to always be aware of your limits.
