North Shields: Have you seen those drone images of Wet ‘n’ Wild? They really show how the demolition is coming along. It’s wild to think that this popular spot is being flattened.
Heavy machinery rolled in last November, and now, most of the attraction is gone, with just the flumes left standing. It’s a big change for a place that brought joy to so many kids over the years.
Wet ‘n’ Wild opened back in 1993 and was famous for having the biggest water slide in Britain, the Black Hole. But folks were pretty shocked when it closed in 2013.
New owners, Bloom Developments Ltd, got the green light from North Tyneside Council to tear it down last August. They mentioned issues like break-ins and anti-social behavior as reasons for the demolition.
They’re not just taking down the main building but also an outbuilding. Earlier this summer, a local DJ even threw a rave on the site, which was pretty cool.
The council expects the demolition to take about eight weeks. After that, they plan to level the site, but what’s next for the area is still a mystery. The site was bought from Serco Leisure just this summer.
