Drivers Warned of Major Road Closures in Plymouth This Week
Plymouth City Council announces significant road closures for resurfacing work

Plymouth: Drivers in Plymouth need to be aware of some major road closures coming up. The city council is shutting down Laira Bridge Road and nearby streets for resurfacing work on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
This work is all about giving the road a fresh new surface. They’ll be milling the old stuff and laying down hot asphalt, which should last a good seven to ten years. Pretty neat, right?
So, here’s the plan: on Tuesday night, they’ll work on the inbound side, and on Wednesday night, it’ll be the outbound side. Both nights, the work starts at 7 PM and wraps up by 6 AM. Expect some detours, folks!
If you’re coming from or heading to the east side of the city—places like Plymstock, Sherford, or Modbury—it’s a good idea to find another route or leave a bit earlier those nights.
On Tuesday, they’ll close Billacombe Road and Laira Bridge inbound from the roundabout to Embankment Lane. Plus, one lane will be closed outbound to keep things safe for the workers.
And on Wednesday, Laira Bridge Road will be closed outbound from Embankment Lane to The Ride. There will be a bunch of lane closures and no right turns in some spots, so keep an eye out for signs.
They’ve got diversions set up through Haye Road and Marsh Mills, and some bus routes will also be affected. If you ride the bus, check out the Plymouth Citybus website for the latest updates.
They’ve been putting up warning signs for a while now, so hopefully, everyone’s got the memo. If you want to stay in the loop, you can sign up for their Roadworks Roundup email.
