Shotts: A drink driver crashed into two parked cars while trying to escape police. David Farquharson, 29, was caught after a short foot chase. He even threatened to stab the officers.
Farquharson was sentenced to 12 months in jail. He also received a seven-and-a-half-year driving ban. This happened on July 24 in Muldron Terrace.
He admitted to driving dangerously while disqualified and over the drink limit. The court heard he was seen driving a Ford Focus without lights at 2:20 AM.
When he spotted the police, he braked suddenly and reversed quickly. His car crashed into two parked vehicles before he and a passenger fled on foot.
Police chased him down and arrested him nearby. Officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol on his breath. He admitted to drinking a bottle of wine.
Farquharson then threatened the officers, saying he would stab them. The police found out he was disqualified from driving until 2028.
One of the cars he hit was a Seat mobility vehicle, which was written off. His defense lawyer said he had been drinking with friends and panicked when he saw the police.
Farquharson’s sentence was backdated since he had been in custody since his arrest. This means he could be released early.
