LOS ANGELES: So, Doug Christie is the new head coach for the Kings. He took over after Mike Brown got the boot. Right off the bat, he told the players, “We have enough.” He really believes in the talent in that locker room.

But here’s the kicker: he’s working with the same squad that’s been struggling. In his first game, the Kings let the Lakers score 40 points in the first quarter. Ouch! DeMar DeRozan pointed out that giving up two 40-point quarters isn’t a great way to win.

They lost that game 132-122, making it six losses in a row. Now, the Kings are sitting at 13-19 and need to step it up if they want a shot at the playoffs. Christie isn’t looking for a grace period; he wants wins right away.

On offense, the Kings are doing well, ranking in the top 10. Fox, DeRozan, and Domantas Sabonis can score with the best of them. But defensively? They’re struggling, sitting at 17th in the league. That’s a big drop from last season when they were better defensively.

Fox knows they need to tighten up on defense. He said, “We have to get stops when we need to.” And that’s true. If they can get their defense sorted, they can run and gun like they used to. They’ve been slow this season, but against the Lakers, they played faster, which was nice to see.

Christie wants to keep that pace up, but he knows he can’t make huge changes mid-season. Kevin Huerter mentioned that they don’t have the time for drastic shifts. It’s all about effort right now, and Christie is pushing for high-level competition.

While the effort was there, the execution still needs work. The Kings have to turn things around quickly. Firing Brown was a clear message that they want to win this season. Huerter said they don’t see this as a lost cause, and Christie echoed that sentiment, insisting there’s enough talent to make it happen.

Now, it’s up to Christie to prove he can turn this team around. But after his first game, it looks like the same old defensive issues might be a tough nut to crack.
