Melbourne: A heartbreaking situation unfolded when Lino Atem, just 24, was killed in a violent ambush at Haines Drive Reserve. His father, Deng, is devastated, especially since he lost another son to violence earlier this year.
On that fateful night, Lino was with a group of friends when a larger gang, armed with machetes, attacked them. It all happened so fast, and sadly, Lino didn’t make it despite the efforts to save him.
Two other men were hurt but thankfully their injuries weren’t life-threatening. Deng remembers Lino as a talented basketball player with a big heart and many friends. It’s just so tragic that this family has to endure such pain.
In an emotional interview, Deng expressed his frustration and called for justice. He’s waiting for the police to catch those responsible. He’s also still reeling from the loss of his other son, who was shot earlier this year.
Authorities are trying to figure out if these two incidents are connected. Meanwhile, the attackers fled the scene, and police have arrested a few people from Lino’s group, but they’ve been released without charges.
It’s a tough time for the family, and they’re hoping for answers. If anyone saw what happened or has any footage, they’re encouraged to reach out to Crime Stoppers. It’s just so sad to see a family go through this kind of heartache.
