Bedworth: This week, the water at Sidings Pool was frozen solid. It turned into quite the scene when two folks fell through the ice while trying to save their dogs.

What started as a simple dog walk quickly turned into a rescue operation on Saturday. A man and a woman got stuck after one of them went onto the ice to help their pets.

When the first person fell in, the other rushed out to help, and soon both were stranded for about 20 minutes. Luckily, some nearby people noticed and called 999.

Emergency services, including police and firefighters, showed up with life buoys and throw lines to pull them out. They had been in that icy water long enough to need treatment for hypothermia and were taken to the hospital.

On a brighter note, both dogs were fine and kept warm at the scene. The whole incident prompted a warning from the Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service.

They reminded everyone about the dangers of icy conditions. Pet owners should keep their pets off the ice, use leashes, and avoid jumping in after them. Instead, they should call for help.

Safety is key for both pets and their owners, and trying to rescue pets can lead to serious trouble. The fire service urged everyone to be cautious during the cold weather.
