London’s Fire Brigade warns dog owners after two rescues on icy lake

London: The Fire Brigade had to jump into action recently when two dogs got stuck on a frozen lake in Battersea Park. It’s a real eye-opener about how dangerous icy waters can be for our furry friends.
The first rescue happened when a guy tried to save his dog that was trapped on the ice. Unfortunately, he ended up stuck too! Firefighters quickly sent out a rescue boat to get them both back to safety. They were treated on the spot, which was a relief.
Just a few hours later, they got another call about a different dog in the same situation. It’s clear that this is a serious issue, and the Fire Brigade is urging dog owners to keep their pets away from frozen lakes and ponds.
A spokesperson from the Brigade stressed that if your dog goes onto the ice, don’t follow them. Instead, call them back and, if they’re stuck, get help right away. Trying to rescue them yourself can put you in danger too.
They also pointed out that ice can look thick but can be really thin just a few steps in. It’s best to stay away from the edges of any open water, especially if it’s slippery. Falling in can be really dangerous, as the cold water can take your breath away and lead to panic.
In fact, the cold can make it hard to move, and you could end up in serious trouble. The Fire Brigade was on the scene quickly, with multiple fire engines responding to both incidents. Thankfully, they managed to resolve everything without any major issues.
So, if you’re out walking your dog, keep them on a lead near any frozen water. It’s just not worth the risk!
