Benfleet: Firefighters rushed to a home on Firfield Road after someone spotted smoke pouring out of a window on Tuesday afternoon.

When they got there, crews from Colchester and Coggeshall found a serious fire on the ground floor, which likely started in the kitchen.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service reported that smoke filled the entire house and began spreading to the neighboring property.

The firefighters worked fast to control the flames and ventilate both homes, stopping any further damage.

Unfortunately, the family’s dog didn’t make it, and the house suffered a lot of damage.

Station Manager Russ Freeman expressed his sadness, saying it was a heartbreaking situation, especially with two people now without a home and the loss of their pets. He extended his thoughts to the residents during this tough time.

He also mentioned that sharing these incidents helps raise awareness and offers safety tips to prevent similar tragedies.

The fire service recommends installing smoke alarms on every level of your home, keeping doors closed, and turning off electrical appliances completely after use to lower the risk of fire.
