Dallas: So, the Cowboys have a big decision coming up. Mike McCarthy’s future is in the air. He’s not locked in for next season, and it’s a two-way street. Does he want to stay?
It’s a bit of a mystery for everyone outside the team. Stephen Jones mentioned on his radio show that they’ll chat about it next week. McCarthy echoed that sentiment when asked about his plans.
He said, “I need to make sure I’m doing exactly what I’m asking everybody else to do: We need to finish the race.” Sounds like he’s focused on the present, right?
McCarthy has some solid backing from former players like Troy Aikman and current stars like Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons. Prescott showed his support again this week, which McCarthy appreciated.
“Thank you,” he said. “It’s a reflection of what we have here. We do things the right way.” He’s really proud of the team culture.
But he also noted that now isn’t the time for those talks. The Cowboys were knocked out of playoff contention last week, and with their recent loss to the Eagles, they’re set to finish with a losing record.
It’s worth mentioning that McCarthy and the entire coaching staff are in the last year of their contracts. So, he’ll be a free agent come offseason. It’s definitely a wait-and-see situation.
