Victoria: So, there was this big event called the We Unify Reclaiming Canada conference, and it turned out to be a bit of a mess. The organizer, Jonathan Bower, had promised a star-studded lineup, including big names like Amal Clooney and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. But when the event rolled around in June, none of those folks showed up.

Instead, the speakers were more on the right side of the political spectrum, featuring people like Lauren Southern and some others who stirred up quite a bit of controversy. Documents that came out later showed that the city officials were pretty worried about how things were going to play out, especially with protests happening outside the venue.

It got chaotic inside the Victoria Conference Centre, with delegates reportedly running in fear from protesters. There were even calls to emergency services because things got so out of hand. The city had to deal with complaints from the public about hosting such a contentious event on public property.

After the event, the city decided they wouldn’t host any more events for Bower and his team, citing safety concerns and a lack of clarity about what the event was really about. Bower, on the other hand, felt that the city was being unfair and unconstitutional in their decision to ban future events.

In the end, the city lost about $8,000 on the whole thing, which isn’t great for a public venue. Some people who attended thought Bower might have been a bit naive about how the event would be received. It seems like there was a lot of miscommunication and expectations that just didn’t match up.
