Biochemist Jessie Inchauspé is diving into this topic in her new show, “Eat Smart: Secrets of The Glucose Goddess,” airing tonight on Channel 4. A doctor named Dr. Sasha Haddad recently shared a TikTok video with her 1.1 million followers, highlighting three subtle symptoms that might mean your body is heading toward diabetes. The video got over 36,000 likes, which shows how important this info is.

Some people might not even realize they have symptoms for years. Dr. Haddad pointed out a few signs to watch for. First, if you notice changes in your skin texture, like velvety patches, that could be a red flag. This condition is known as acanthosis nigricans.

Another sign is skin tags. If you’re finding more of those little flesh-colored growths, it might be time to pay attention. Lastly, frequent yeast infections, especially in areas like your underarms or between your toes, can also indicate diabetes.

Dr. Haddad explained that when we eat sugar, our pancreas releases insulin to help move that sugar into our cells for energy. Type-2 diabetes often comes from lifestyle choices like poor diet, not enough exercise, and obesity, leading to insulin resistance and high blood sugar levels.

The NHS recommends seeing a doctor if you notice any main diabetes symptoms. Remember, type-1 diabetes can develop quickly, while many people with type-2 might not even know they have it for years because the early signs can be so subtle.

While the causes can vary, the most common issue is having too much glucose in the blood. Still, it’s important to have some sugar in your diet for energy.
