Manchester: Heavy rain and strong winds have been causing chaos in the UK, especially in North-West England. The Met Office has issued warnings, and it’s not looking good.

On Wednesday morning, the rain really hit hard, and the Met Office had an amber alert in place until 9 am. They mentioned that some areas could see over 10 cm of rain!

Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service has been swamped with emergency calls due to flooding. TransPennine Express is advising folks not to travel before noon because of significant issues in Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

Train services are a mess, with lines closed between Manchester Piccadilly and Warrington Central. Plus, no trains are running from Manchester Airport to the city’s stations.

Flooding is also causing problems on the M56, which is expected to be closed for a while. Other roads, like the A628 Woodhead Pass, are shut down too.

In Wales, the Conwy Valley Line is closed due to fallen trees, and high winds are making things worse. Winds could reach up to 60 mph, with gusts even higher near the coast.

After the Hogmanay celebrations in Edinburgh were canceled, other fireworks displays across the UK were also called off. However, London’s New Year’s Eve fireworks went ahead as planned.

With more rain turning to snow expected, travel disruptions are likely to continue, especially in the Highlands. The Environment Agency is urging everyone to stay away from swollen rivers and avoid driving through floodwaters.
