Distraught Dad of Darlington Teenager Says ‘I Want to Die’ After Tragedy

Darlington: A heartbreaking incident unfolded when 14-year-old Scarlett Vickers died from a stab wound. Her father, Simon, was arrested while paramedics tried to save her.
It all happened in their home while they were cooking. Simon had been enjoying a family day, watching football and having a drink. But things took a tragic turn.
During the trial, a pathologist explained that Scarlett didn’t collapse immediately after the injury. She could have spoken or walked for a short time before losing consciousness.
Simon told the police they were just playfighting, and he accidentally threw a knife instead of a spatula. But the pathologist dismissed that explanation, saying it was nearly impossible for a knife to be thrown that way.
When the 999 call was played in court, you could hear Simon getting more and more distressed, saying Scarlett had turned blue and wasn’t breathing. Paramedics described the scene as horrific.
Simon was recorded saying, “It was an accident. I want to die,” showing the depth of his despair. CCTV footage from the police station captured his reaction when he learned his daughter had died, repeating, “I just want to die.”
His lawyer told the jury that Simon never intended to harm Scarlett and would carry the weight of her death forever. He denies murdering her, and the trial is still ongoing.
