Ennis: A driver was pulled over for not having insurance. But Gardaí found much more. This driver was using a fake license while disqualified.

Road Policing Units stopped the vehicle on Sunday night. Their Automatic Number Plate Recognition system flagged it as uninsured. Officers thought it would be a quick check, but it turned serious fast.

After talking to the driver, Gardaí discovered the truth. The driver was disqualified and had a fake name on the license. To make matters worse, they failed roadside tests for alcohol and cannabis.

The driver was arrested on the spot. Gardaí seized the car and the fake license. A blood sample was taken, and a court date is coming up.

This driver faces hefty fines. They could pay up to €5,000 and face six months in prison for driving uninsured. Driving without a license could add another €2,000 fine, plus more for drug and drink driving.

On top of that, they’ll get another driving ban. Using a fake license is a serious fraud charge, too.

This isn’t the first fake license case. Recently, a driver in Cork was caught driving with no hands on the wheel and had an outstanding arrest warrant.

Clare Gardaí shared news of this arrest on social media. They also asked for information about a crash that happened on the same day.

The crash occurred at Knockadrohid, O’Briensbridge, just before 4 PM. Two vehicles were involved, and one black jeep fled the scene before Gardaí arrived.

The three people in the first vehicle went to University Hospital Limerick as a precaution. Gardaí want to talk to the driver of the jeep that left.

If you saw the crash or have dash cam footage of a black jeep driving erratically on the Killaloe to O’Briensbridge road on February 2nd, please contact Killaloe Garda Station at 061-620540.
