Mumbai: So, there’s this dismissed RPF constable, Chetansinh Chaudhary, who’s in a bit of a pickle. He’s accused of a train shooting that tragically took the lives of four people. Now, the jail folks say he might be dealing with some mental health issues. They’ve even asked to move him to a hospital in Nagpur for treatment.

Chaudhary was involved in a shocking incident on July 31, 2023, where he allegedly shot his senior colleague and three passengers on a train. It all went down near Palghar station, and he was caught pretty quickly after passengers pulled the emergency chain. He’s been in jail since then, about 550 kilometers from Mumbai, and he got kicked out of the RPF after the incident.

Recently, the jail superintendent wrote to the court saying Chaudhary was feeling unwell and needed to be checked out. Doctors at the local hospital noticed some signs of mental illness and suggested he be sent to a mental health facility. But here’s the twist: the lawyer for the victims is pushing back, saying there’s no proof of any mental issues in the official documents. He claims Chaudhary is fit as a fiddle.

The lawyer wants the court to ignore the jail’s request and keep Chaudhary where he is. Meanwhile, the prosecution thinks it might be easier to send him to a mental health place closer to the trial in Thane. The court hasn’t made a decision yet.

Chaudhary is facing some serious charges, including murder and promoting enmity between groups. The whole situation has sparked a lot of talk about how mental health is handled in cases like this. Everyone’s waiting to see what the court decides about his transfer.
