Nelson: So, here’s the scoop. A former care worker named Samina Arshad got a bit too upset after leaving her job. She decided to log into her old employer’s system using a senior manager’s password. Not cool, right?

On May 31, she went in and canceled a whopping 245 scheduled visits for people who really needed them. Can you imagine? The next day, she logged in again and wiped out all the details of those service users. Talk about a mess!

This whole thing put a lot of vulnerable folks at risk. The police got involved after the care company reported it on June 3. Turns out, Arshad was feeling pretty bitter about how she left the job.

She ended up in court on January 9, where she pleaded guilty to messing with the computer system. The judge gave her a suspended sentence, 60 hours of community service, and told her to pay £3,000 in compensation. Ouch!

Det Con Joe Harper from the Cyber Crime Unit said this was a serious issue that caused a lot of distress. He reminded everyone that insider threats can be a big deal for businesses. His advice? Take cyber security seriously and check out resources from the North West Cyber Resilience Centre.

He also mentioned that anyone can find safety tips on the National Cyber Security Centre’s website. So, if you’re a business or just someone living in Lancashire, it’s worth a look!
