Queensland: Summer is officially here, and it’s bringing some serious heat. The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning about a severe heatwave hitting parts of the state soon.
Most of southeast Queensland is in for a low-intensity heatwave, which means temperatures are about to climb. Some areas could see the mercury rise to nearly 40 degrees!
On Sunday, the bureau flagged a severe heatwave for large regions, including the Northern Goldfields, Upper Flinders, and Central Coast. So, if you’re in those areas, get ready for some hot days ahead.
Brisbane might be a bit cooler, with highs in the low 30s for most of the week. But Wednesday will be the exception, with a top of just 29 degrees.
The bureau warns that severe heat can be risky, especially for older folks, babies, and anyone with health issues. They suggest finding a cool spot, like your home or a local library, to beat the heat.
On Sunday, Bondi Beach was packed as people flocked to enjoy the sun. The bureau also advises keeping windows closed and using air conditioning if you have it.
And it’s not just Queensland feeling the heat. Northern NSW is also expecting some low-intensity heatwave conditions soon.
Meanwhile, the Bureau is keeping an eye on tropical storm activity in Western Australia. They’ve issued a severe thunderstorm warning for several regions, predicting heavy rain and possible flash flooding.
Warm waters are fueling these storms, and we might see two tropical lows forming off WA’s coast in the next week, but they’re expected to stay offshore.
