Brisbane: Summer is officially here, and Queensland is in for a real scorcher. The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe heatwave warning for the state.
Just this past Sunday, some areas hit over 40°C, giving everyone a sneak peek of what’s to come. Brisbane itself reached a steamy 35°C, while Longreach sizzled at 41°C.
Other spots like Mt Isa and Emerald weren’t far behind, with temperatures hitting 39.5°C and 38.2°C, respectively. It’s going to be a hot week ahead!
While Brisbane might cool down a bit, most of the week will still see temps in the low 30s. Wednesday is the only day expected to dip to 29°C.
The heatwave warning covers a lot of ground, including the Northern Goldfields, Upper Flinders, and several other regions. The Bureau warns that severe heat can be risky, especially for older folks, babies, and anyone with health issues.
They recommend finding a cool spot, like your home or a local library, and keeping windows closed to block out the heat. If you have air conditioning, now’s the time to use it!
And it’s not just Queensland feeling the heat. Parts of northern New South Wales are also expecting some low-intensity heatwave conditions soon.
On another note, the Bureau is keeping an eye on tropical storm activity in Western Australia, with warnings for thunderstorms that could lead to heavy rain and flash flooding.
Warm waters are stirring up storms, and while two tropical lows might form, they’re expected to stay offshore for now.
