Diocese Offices at Salisbury Church House Could Become Homes
Plans are underway to convert the historic Church House into residential units

Salisbury: Church House, located on Crane Street, was the Diocese of Salisbury’s office until 2023. The staff moved to a new space in Wilton.
This Grade I-listed building was put up for sale at £2 million and was bought by the Clydesdale Group for Audley Heritage.
Rumor has it that even Henry VIII stayed there! Now, there are plans to turn the office space into seven new homes.
The proposed layout includes three townhouses, a two-bedroom house, and three flats, adding to the four existing residential units.
The goal is to keep the building’s historic charm while bringing new life to the city center with these homes.
They plan to make some changes, like removing modern additions and sprucing up the courtyard with new plants and cobbled paving.
Initially, the building was marketed for business use, but there was no interest. It seems finding a business that fits the space is tough.
With so many offices available in Salisbury, using this historic site for business just isn’t practical.
To protect the building from flooding, a modest flood wall and gates will be added since it’s close to the River Avon.
New housing here would be a win-win, providing social and economic benefits for future residents who can enjoy all the city has to offer.
Church House dates back to the 15th century when it was built for the Audley family. It served as a workhouse from 1634 and was almost demolished in 1881.
