Moffat: A group of six people dined at the Black Bull pub. They enjoyed their meal but later refused to pay a £300 bill. They claimed they didn’t like the food and service.
After leaving the pub, the group was found at their hotel. Police escorted them back to the pub around midnight to settle their bill.
Janie Seaton, the pub owner, said she took off the cost of the mains after they complained. However, one member of the group insisted they wouldn’t pay the remaining amount.
Janie described the situation as uncomfortable. She felt the group’s behavior was disrespectful. After they left, she decided to call the police for help.
When the police arrived, they explained the legal consequences of not paying. The officers brought the diners back to the pub one by one to settle the bill.
Janie appreciated the police’s quick response. She mentioned that similar incidents happen often, and she’s ready to take legal action if needed.
She emphasized that it’s not just about the money; it’s about standing up for her business. Janie believes that if people think they can get away with not paying, it sets a bad precedent.
Leon Thompson from UK Hospitality Scotland supported her view. He stated that leaving without paying is unacceptable and encouraged reporting such incidents to the police.
