When the firefighters arrived, the back of the bus was already engulfed in flames. You could see thick smoke billowing over the city, and folks said it was visible from quite a distance, even from Saltash. People nearby were definitely feeling the heat, with one person mentioning smoke in Ernesettle.
The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service got the call around 2:09 PM. They sent out multiple fire engines from different stations to handle the situation. It was serious enough that they had to bring in extra help.
By the time they got there, the rear of the bus was pretty much toast. The firefighters used breathing gear and foam jets to get the fire under control. Sadly, the bus was about 80% damaged, and a couple of nearby cars didn’t fare much better.
They’re still on the scene, keeping an eye out for any lingering hotspots. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported, but they’ve closed off some roads while they deal with everything. If you want to stay updated, they’ve got a live blog going for the latest news.
