Phoenix: The Suns are in a tough spot right now. They’ve dropped 6 out of their last 7 games. If the playoffs started today, they wouldn’t even make the play-in tournament. It’s wild considering they have the highest payroll in the NBA.
The biggest worry? Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal have barely played together this season—just 197 minutes due to injuries. And when they do, their performance hasn’t been great, with a -4.3 net rating. In their recent game against the Grizzlies, they fell behind early and couldn’t catch up. It was Booker’s first game back after missing five, and Beal only played a quarter before getting hurt.
After the game, Booker didn’t hold back, saying the “frustration level’s high.” He knows how important these games are and wants to get out of the play-in spot.
Coach Mike Budenholzer also acknowledged the tough times. He mentioned that the team had high hopes coming into the season, and they need to find ways to improve.
Durant chimed in too, saying he knows he needs to step up and believes everyone in the locker room feels the same way. They all need to look in the mirror and do better.
One major issue for the Suns is their defense. They’re ranked in the bottom 10, and there are talks about possibly trading center Jusuf Nurkic for someone who can defend better. But it’s not just about one player; the perimeter defense needs to improve too, especially with Royce O’Neale out for a bit.
Health is crucial for this team. They don’t have much depth, so when the big three are healthy, it’s concerning that they still struggle. The Suns have some work to do if they want to turn things around.
