Blackpool: A nurse named Catherine Hudson has been kicked off the nursing register for some truly shocking behavior. She was caught drugging patients at Blackpool Victoria Hospital just to make her job easier.
Hudson was sentenced to over seven years in prison for her actions. She illegally sedated two patients and even conspired with a junior nurse to sedate a third. It all came to light when a student nurse reported her for suggesting an unprescribed sleeping pill for an elderly patient.
One of her victims, a 76-year-old woman named Aileen Scott, was given a sedative to keep her quiet. Aileen had suffered a stroke and was in a vulnerable state. Her son described Hudson’s actions as “pure evil,” saying it would haunt their family forever.
In a chilling message, Hudson even joked about sedating a patient, showing a complete lack of empathy. The judge at her sentencing pointed out how vulnerable these patients were and how Hudson exploited them for her own amusement.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council found her actions to be a serious breach of trust. They noted that her behavior indicated deep-seated issues and a high risk of reoffending. They decided she couldn’t remain on the register, as it would be morally unacceptable for someone like her to practice nursing again.
While the decision to strike her off won’t take effect for 28 days, she’s already facing an interim suspension. Hudson’s case is a stark reminder of the importance of patient safety and the trust we place in healthcare professionals.
