Belfast: Diggers and heavy machinery have been busy at the Dublin Road site, tearing down the beloved bar. It’s been quite a sight over the last few days as the building comes down.

A lot of progress has already been made, and the old bar is mostly gone now. This spot was a favorite hangout for students, but soon it’ll be home to over 200 student apartments.

Filthy McNasty’s and its cocktail lounge, Liquor XXX, threw a big farewell party on New Year’s Eve before closing for good. They really went out with a bang!

Back in 2023, they got the green light for an 11-story housing block, even with some pushback from a nearby hotel. The developers, FMN Properties Limited, are also looking to build a new pub on Ventry Street.

Last year, the construction was estimated to cost around £7 million, and it’s expected to create 123 construction jobs and 23 full-time positions once it’s up and running.

When they announced their final party, Filthy’s called it the “end of an era.” They invited everyone to join for one last unforgettable night, celebrating all the good times shared there.

On New Year’s Eve, Liquor XXX also shared their goodbyes, thanking everyone for the amazing memories over the years. The bar had been a staple on the Dublin Road for over 15 years, known as one of the best spots in the city.

Interestingly, it’s said to be named after a favorite hangout of Shane MacGowan in London. Filthy’s has had its share of drama too, with some wild incidents over the years, including a serious one in 2017 involving a student.

In 2021, a father and son duo from a local barbershop got into trouble after an altercation at the bar. And just last October, Filthy’s received a low food safety rating, highlighting some major areas needing improvement.

So, it’s a bittersweet moment for many as this iconic bar makes way for new student housing. Time really flies, doesn’t it?
