Cheltenham: So, there’s some good news for donut lovers! The Little Donut Stall in the town center can keep serving up those tasty treats. The council voted unanimously to approve its street trading license after a complaint was tossed out.
William Danter, the stall owner, wanted to keep selling hot and cold food from his traditional English barrow. The whole thing came up after a complaint from a letting agent representing a nearby store. They claimed the stall was scaring off potential tenants.
The complaint was filed back in November, saying that the presence of the stall was a turn-off for businesses looking at the former Carphone Warehouse location. But the council didn’t buy it. They heard from both sides and found the complaint pretty weak.
There were no safety concerns raised by the police or local highways, and the data showed no accidents in the last five years. Plus, the stall had been there long before the new owners took over the nearby property.
Chair of the Licensing Sub-committee, Cllr Dr. David Willingham, even compared the complaint to someone buying a house near an airport and then whining about the noise. He said it was clear the stall had been operating without issues for years, so it was all good.
Cheltenham’s street trading policy looks at things like public safety and nuisance, and they found no reason to change things just because of a new owner nearby. So, the donut stall stays, and that’s a win for everyone who loves a good coffee and donut!
