Coleford: So, there’s this big decision coming up about building 140 homes in Coleford, Gloucestershire. Freeman Homes wants to develop a chunk of land at Poolway Farm. The council is set to discuss it next week.

The Forest of Dean District Council will look at the plans on January 21. They want to build homes, plus roads, parking, and some green spaces. Sounds like a lot, right?

They plan to keep the old Poolway Farmhouse but will tear down some old farm buildings. If it gets the green light, there’ll be a mix of homes, including two, three, and four-bedroom houses, plus some flats. They’re even thinking about a roundabout for better access.

The homes will be two to two-and-a-half stories high, and some will be set aside for folks over 55. But not everyone is on board with this plan.

Coleford Town Council is worried about traffic. They think the roundabout is super important, especially since heavy trucks use that route. They’re also concerned about where a gas governor is planned to go.

Some locals have voiced their worries too. They’re asking if there are enough schools and doctors to handle all these new families. Plus, they’re wondering if the new homes will fit in with the town’s vibe.

One resident pointed out that every direction you come from leads to a housing estate that looks different. They feel the character of Coleford isn’t being considered.

Consultants say these homes are needed, and council officers think the plans are solid. They’re recommending approval, but it’s clear there’s a lot of mixed feelings in the community.
