Toronto: After a little break from the snow and cold, southern Ontario is gearing up for a wintry comeback starting Wednesday. It looks like we’ll be shoveling again soon!

Snow is set to hit southern and eastern Ontario on Wednesday and stick around into Friday. Some areas might get 5-10 cm of snow in two waves. Plus, we’re in for a serious drop in temperatures, making it feel like the coldest air we’ve had this season.

So, if you’re heading out, be ready for slower drives. The roads will get slippery with the snow and the rain we’ve had recently.

A weak weather system is moving into the Great Lakes, bringing some messy conditions. Expect some wet flurries in the southern part of the province on Wednesday morning.

By the afternoon, the Greater Toronto Area and Ottawa Valley will see precipitation. Just a heads up, the roads will be slick, so plan for a longer commute.

In the GTA, it’ll start with rain or a mix of rain and snow. Ottawa will see rain first, but snow will take over by the evening.

As for snowfall totals, the lakeshores might get rain due to Lake Ontario’s warming effect, while Pearson International Airport and northern GTA areas will likely see snow.

By Thursday morning, we could see 2-5 cm of snow, but it’s a bit tricky since there will be a mix of rain and snow. Downtown Toronto and the lakeshore areas might only get less than 1 cm since it’ll mostly be rain.

And guess what? This isn’t the end of the snow. Another system from the Prairies will bring more snow late Thursday into Friday, possibly adding another 5-10 cm.

Areas east of Sarnia could see even more, with lake-effect snow potentially piling up over 15 cm, along with some blowing snow.

This weekend is going to be the coldest we’ve seen so far, with wind chills in the negative teens in the GTA and even colder in cottage country.

So, bundle up! The frigid weather will stick around through Sunday, but we should see a bit of a warm-up early next week.
