Newport: A 23-year-old drug dealer named Shane Smith was living large, offering free samples of heroin and crack cocaine. He was caught with over 800 drug-related messages on his phone, which showed he was deeply involved in the drug trade.

Smith was a key player in supplying class A drugs in south Wales. His messages revealed he was not just selling drugs but also directing others to do the same. He even offered perks like money, fuel, and meals to those helping him out.

He pleaded guilty to supplying heroin and crack cocaine and got an eight-year prison sentence at Cardiff Crown Court last year. The police are hoping his case will serve as a warning to others thinking about getting into this illegal business.

Detective Constable Short from Gwent Police pointed out that Smith was living a “cash-rich” lifestyle, going on fancy holidays and buying designer clothes, all while being unemployed. His actions have serious consequences, and the community’s support is crucial in tackling such crimes.

In a recent court hearing, it was revealed that Smith made nearly £68,000 from his illegal activities but only has about £14,000 in assets. The judge ordered him to pay back that amount, which is a small price compared to what he gained.
