Jindabyne: The search for Hadi Nazari has hit day ten, and it’s been a real challenge. The terrain in Kosciuszko National Park is no joke, described as “bloody tough country.”
Hadi, just 23, was last spotted on Boxing Day while tackling the tricky Hannels Spur trail. He was supposed to meet friends at Geehi campground but never showed up.
A big team effort is underway, with police, the State Emergency Service, and volunteers all joining forces. They’ve been searching high and low since he went missing.
On Tuesday, they found some rubbish and hiking poles thought to belong to him near the Kosciuszko River, which helped narrow down the search area.
Doug Chatten, a guide from Snowy Mountains Back Country, mentioned that while the trail has its ups and downs, it’s not so steep that you need to climb like a mountain goat. But going downhill? That’s where it gets tough.
He explained that the festive season brings a lot of hikers to the area, but it’s not packed like Everest. Still, it’s a popular spot.
Search teams are working hard, but if someone strays off the path, it can get really tricky. Doug said, “If you’re off the track, it’s bloody tough country.”
Summer days are long, but they come with their own set of challenges. It’s been hot and dry lately, making things even harder for the searchers.
Some areas are so dense that searchers can’t even see their feet, which is wild. Acting Superintendent Jill Gibson mentioned that they have specialized teams and aircraft helping out, but the thick bushland is a real obstacle.
Despite the difficulties, the police are holding onto hope. They’re determined to find Hadi and are not giving up on the possibility of bringing him home safely.
The Hannels Spur trail is known for being one of the toughest bushwalking routes in Australia, so it’s no wonder the search is proving to be a challenge.
